They are being misdiagnosed 50 per cent higher than men, being dismissed by medics as having indigestion, muscle pain, even anxiety. Researchers at Leeds University have calculated that as many as 24,000 heart attacks in women are initially misdiagnosed each year leading to one expert saying the results show a need to challenge preconceptions as heart disease can manifest itself differently in women. An awareness campaign is badly needed.
