Connswater Homes is seeking planning permission from Mid and East Antrim Borough Council to build 16 two-bedroom flats in a 3.5 storey block on the site at Curran Road.

The development will include associated carparking.

Outline planning permission was granted in 2014 for the construction of 20 two-bedroom apartments and for the demolition of the former hotel premises.

The building which is now derelict went on the market for £275,000 in 2016.

Connswater Homes has said previously it hopes that the community will view the development as a “positive contribution to Larne town centre with enhancement of the redundant Curran Court Hotel site and provision of much-needed homes for those families and individuals in housing stress”.

A spokesperson also stated: “Connswater Homes is committed to providing high quality homes in areas of identified need.

“One of our core objectives is to enhance communities and ensure suitable tenancies.”

It is expected that the new housing will provide homes for the over-55 age group.

Meanwhile, there are plans for further accommodation to be provided in the Latharna Building at lower Main Street.

A planning application has been lodged with the council for a change of use from seven vacant retail units to 10 one-bedroom apartments.
