Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly pays tribute to barrister friend after untimely death
Deputy First Minister Emma Little Pengelly has paid tribute to a close friend who studied law with her at Queen's University Belfast, after she passed away in her early forties.
The Lagan Valley MLA said on social media: "I am completely heartbroken by the passing this morning of my very good and wonderful friend, my wee Naomh.”

A family notice said that Naomh Conlon (Née Lavery) died peacefully at the Marie Curie Hospice on 5 November 2026.
The pair met while studying at the barrister training course at Queen’s University and were “inseparable” she said.

"Naomh was a brilliant woman - a warm, funny and wise friend and a hugely capable person. She had a huge heart, and such a sharp mind.
"She was much loved and it feels so very unfair that her life ended so early through this terrible sickness in her early 40s. We had so many incredibly fun times, as we navigated those early years as young barristers and through the twists and turns of life.
"I will miss her so much, and mourn so deeply for the years she will not get on this earth. All the love, fun, experiences and joy that Naomhy deserved so much. Now, her pain is gone but she leaves behind such a huge gap in all of our hearts."
The MLA offered her deepest condolences and love to Naomh's husband, Cathal, mum, aunties, sister, cousins and all her family and friends.
"May God bless them and comfort them at this time of terrible grief," she said.
The Deputy First Minister also paid tribute to all staff at the Marie Curie Cancer Hospice who care for Naomh.
"The compassion and professionalism I witnessed was just incredible," she said.
"I know it will have been deeply appreciated by the family. You all do such incredible work. Thank you so much. I am heartbroken and I will mourn her loss deeply."
A family notice said that Naomh was a loving wife of Cathal, beloved daughter to Christine much-loved sister to Ciara. daughter-in-law, sister-in-law and niece, cousin, aunt and friend to many.
Her funeral will be Monday 9 November for 10am Requiem mass in St Paul’s Church followed by burial in Milltown Cemetery, Belfast.
