Crashes cause traffic chaos on major North and East Belfast roads
Crashes have caused traffic chaos at major roads in North and East Belfast tonight.
One of the roads has been closed in both directions, the police have confirmed, while the other remained open but traffic was moving slowly as emergency services dealt with a pile-up involving multiple vehicles, causing severe delays.

The incidents were reported less than an hour apart, with the earlier happening at one of the busiest junctions in east Belfast.
Shortly before 7.30pm, a five-car collision was reported on the A2 road at Tillysburn, heading in the direction of the Sydenham byass.
The crash, stated to be in the Belfast-bound direction, caused snarl-ups at what is a major junction linking the east of the city with roads leading to Bangor, Holywood and two large branches of well-known supermarkets.
It was reported that an ambulance was in attendance at the five-car crash.
At 8pm, a PSNI spokeswoman stated: “Police are currently in attendance at a road traffic collision at the Tillysburn junction in the Knocknagoney area of east Belfast. Traffic is moving slowly and road users should exercise caution in the area.”
Minutes later it was reported that north Belfast’s Upper Hightown Road was closed in both directions following a road traffic collision.
Police stated diversions had been put in place at junctions at both end of the road – one its junction with Belfast’s Crumlin Road, the other its junction with Hightown Road close to Mallusk.
Stated a PSNI spokeswoman: “Please avoid the area and seek alternative routes.”
