Weather warning reveals ‘snow and ice’ to return to parts of NI next week

The Met Office has issued a Yellow weather warning for snow and ice for next Monday - February 8.

It will last, according to the meteorologists, for 24 hours between midnight on February 7 and midnight on February 8.

They say: “Snow showers for many with a cold easterly wind. Disruption to travel is possible.”

The news comes as we emerge from a Yellow weather warning for heavy rain which they warned ‘may lead to some flooding and travel disruption’.

The warning for snow and Ice adds that - some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services

-some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces

- and probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

Meanwhile for today, according to the Met Office, we should expect “a cloudy day with outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, especially over Antrim and Down”.

“Best of any drier weather will be across Fermanagh and Armagh. Strong winds along the North Coast easing. Maximum temperature 6 °C,” it adds.

Tonight there “will be further showers or longer spells of rain”.

“These will be heavy at times, especially in the east. Minimum temperature 2 °C,” it adds.

Friday’s forecast is “another cloudy day with further showers or longer spells of rain”.

“Turning colder through the evening with freshening easterly winds. Maximum temperature 5 °C.”

And the outlook for Saturday to Monday is “a mixture of bright spells and a few showers, these turning wintry from Sunday. Feeling cold with brisk easterly winds.”
