The 55-year-old Lagan Valley representative stepped down temporarily from his role as agriculture minister on Tuesday to facilitate “surgery and recuperation”.

Hide AdBut last night he thanked the staff at the NHS for the “skill, care and professionalism” they had shown him.
In an update on Facebook, which includes a picture in hospital, he says: “Words cannot describe how grateful I am to the amazing staff in our health service for the skill, care, professionalism shown to me today.
“The surgery was curative and I can’t get over how well I am feeling.
“Thanks also to all who messaged me and especially prayed for, God has answered your and my prayer mightily.”
