Weapon found during Londonderry searches
Police have discovered a weapon during prolonged searches near a Londonderry cemetery.
A police operation close to the City Cemetery at Lone Moor Road is ongoing tonight.
Inspector Johnny Hunter said: “Searches in the area are continuing following the discovery of a weapon at the scene. Police will endeavour to bring the operation to a close as soon as we can, however, we will not take chances with the safety of the local community and we will continue in our work here until we are sure that the area is safe.”
Inspector Hunter continued: “I would ask anyone who has noticed any suspicious activity in the area recently to contact police at Strand Road on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
