WW1 medals stolen during north Belfast burglary

A collection of First World War medals with 'great sentimental value' has been stolen during a burglary at a house in north Belfast.

A Military Medal awarded for bravery - bearing the head of King George - is among those originally presented to sapper McIntyre Shield Pelan.

The collection was stolen from a house on Parkmount Street sometime between 9pm on Saturday and 9.30am on Sunday.

Thirty American silver dollars were also taken.

A PSNI spokesman said: “These medals are of great sentimental value to the owner and police are making every effort possible to locate them. If you have any information that would assist our investigation, or if you are offered items like this for sale, please contact police on 101.”
