Allan McGregor ‘privileged’ to return to Rangers as goalkeeping coach
Allan McGregor said it was “a real privilege” to return to Rangers as their lead goalkeeping coach.
The 44-year-old, who made more than 500 appearances in two spells as Gers keeper before retiring from playing in 2023, replaces Sal Bibbo, who recently departed to join Coventry.

A statement from Rangers confirming his appointment said McGregor would “lead the goalkeeping infrastructure across the club moving forward”.
McGregor had a short spell back at Ibrox in the closing months of the 2024-25 season as part of interim boss Barry Ferguson’s coaching team. The former Scotland and Hull goalkeeper is relishing a more prominent role within recently-appointed boss Derek McInnes’s backroom staff.
“I’m really excited to be back and to be joining the club’s coaching staff,” McGregor told Gers’ website.
“Everyone knows what this club means to me, so to have the opportunity to return and help the club in the present and future is a real privilege.
“Rangers is a club that demands the very highest standards, and I’m looking forward to getting started, working with the players and staff, and seeing what we can achieve together in this next chapter.”
Rangers are heading to Spain for a warm-weather training camp over the next week as they step up preparations for their William Hill Premiership opener at Dundee United three weeks on Friday.
They have already added five new players to their squad – Lawrence Shankland, Ben Godfrey, Dan Neil, Ross McCrorie and goalkeeper Ivor Pandur – and are hoping to strike a deal for Partizan Belgrade midfielder and captain, Vanja Dragojevic, while Bologna and Scotland midfielder Lewis Ferguson is also a target.
