MANAGER'S VERDICT: David Healy fears Linfield defender may be sidelined for a considerable amount of time

Linfield manager David Healy has voiced his concern over an injury sustained to defender Darragh Leahy in Saturday’s victory away at Limavady United.

The 28-year-old had to be stretchered off towards the end of the second half after falling to the playing surface.

The Blues did manage to claim all three points in the north west as Matthew Fitzpatrick netted in the first half, with Adam Frizzell’s header doing the damage after the restart.

It means Linfield have won three Premiership games on the bounce after losing their opener against Ballymena United.

WORRIED ABOUT LEAHY?

"Yeah, I am.

"The reason why I'm worried about it is because he's so effective for us.

"He’s left-sided, has great experience and he's been exceptional since he's come in from January.

"It's a real blow, whether it's short to mid-term or whether it's mid to long-term, we don't know.

"It doesn't look great but I hope for Darragh's sake, I hope for our back four's sake, I hope for everybody else and certainly my sake that it's not as serious as we certainly feel at the moment.

PLEASED WITH THE VICTORY?

"We talked to the players yesterday without being negative, because sometimes you don't want to be negative 24 hours before the game, but we had to realise our away form last season and we brought it up.

"We went through game by game...the situation that we found ourselves in last year was unacceptable.

"It's important that you win games away from home. If you're going to have any success, whatever success looks like this year, you have to win away from home.

"I thought we were professional today. We got, certainly, goals at good times. I thought we should have scored bang on half-time, maybe to make it 2-0, which would have, again, encouraged probably a little bit more of a platform.

"We didn't get that until Adam’s got the second goal in the second half, which again came at a really good time.

"We just settled the game down with the experience that they have and around the team.

"You know, somebody like Stevie O'Donnell coming in from a set play, a Philly Lowry landing on a ball which he's more than capable of…you always run the risk of conceding a goal. Thankfully, we didn't today.

FRIZZELL IMPACT:

"he's been exceptional since he came into the team.

"I think I got booed the first game when I brought him off against Ballymena as he was probably one of our better players.

"People probably weren't aware of at the time that we were making sure, again, he's come in, put in a lot of hard work in and he played the European games that probably the game at the time had gone against Ballymena.

"I think he's played nearly every minute since. He creates goals with his supplies, his delivery and his ball.

"When he finds himself on the inverted side, when he's basically cross-shooting from that side, he’s a real threat and thankfully Fitzy (Matthew Fitzpatrick) was in the right area to score.
