Crusaders star 'so grateful for support' after transfer exit to Championship club confirmed

Queen’s University have confirmed the return of Stewart Nixon on a permanent transfer from Crusaders – with the attacker saying he’s “so grateful” for the support received at Seaview.

It was a sensational loan spell at Queen’s which helped earn Nixon his move to the Crues from Carrick Rangers in January 2024 – he scored 10 goals in 11 Premier Intermediate League appearances and 20 across all competitions, including against Linfield in the BetMcLean Cup.

The 29-year-old played 72 times for Crusaders, netting 11 goals – his most important came in the second leg of their Premiership promotion/relegation play-off triumph over Annagh United as Declan Caddell’s side narrowly preserved top flight status.

Crusaders confirmed earlier this week that Nixon had “asked to be placed on the transfer list” and his arrival will be a welcome boost to James Lavery’s Queen’s side, who sit sixth in the Championship after four matches.

Nixon could be in line to make his club return when Queen’s travel to Ards on Friday evening.

Confirming Nixon’s exit, Crusaders posted on social media: “Crusaders FC can confirm the permanent transfer of Stewart Nixon to Queen’s University.

“Everyone at Crusaders would like to thank Stewart for his efforts during his time at the club and wish him every success for the future.

"In total Stewart made 72 appearances for the Club scoring 11 goals. Thanks for the memories, Stu.”

In a message on social media, Nixon said: "Thank you to everyone for the support over the past couple of seasons to me and my family, we are so grateful. Wish you all the best going forward and I’ll see you soon.”
