STORY OF THE MATCH: Crusaders 4 Glenavon 1

Crusaders picked up their first Premiership victory on home soil as Fraser Bryden’s four-goal haul helped beat basement side Glenavon at Seaview.

Here’s a story of the match in north Belfast.

3: Ross Clarke gets the ball on the right-hand side and cuts inside before hitting a tame effort at Mark Byrne.

9: Glenavon battle well to win the ball in the Crusaders half but Bridel Bosakani blazes over the bar.

13: The experienced Clarke involved yet again for the hosts as his cross picks out Elliot Dunlop but the winger’s header fails to trouble Byrne.

17: A valuable block by Lloyd Anderson as Glenavon worked a fine team move as Peter Campbell’s shot is blocked by the midfielder.

28: Kyle McClelland denied the opener for Glenavon as his header is diverted around the post.

32: GOAL – Crusaders 1 (Bryden) Glenavon 0

The deadlock is broken for the hosts as Dunlop is played down the left flank and his cross is on the money for Fraser Bryden to convert from close range.

33: GOAL – Crusaders 2 (Bryden) Glenavon 0

Two goals in a minute to put Declan Caddell’s men in the ascendancy. The ball is worked to Bryden inside the box and the Scotsman has all the time in the world to find the bottom corner.

57: Glenavon threaten first after the restart as Jack Malone’s curling effort from the edge of the box fails to clear the crossbar.

61: A clearance lands at the feet of Davy McDaid but his low effort goes straight into Tuffey’s gloves.

63: A cross-field ball by Malone sees Smith get the better off Forsythe but he also can’t find a way past Tuffey.

69: Crusaders go in search of a third as Brendan Hamilton’s strike from 25 yards is held by Byrne.

71: GOAL – Crusaders 3 (Bryden) Glenavon 0

The match ball is confirmed by Bryden – but it’s his team-mates who deserve immense credit. Finley Thorndike robs Malone in the middle of the park and sprays the ball out wide to Adam Brooks. He unselfishly squares the ball for Bryden to complete his hat-trick.

72: Should be 4-0 as Dunlop feeds the onrushing Thorndike inside the box but the ex-Glentoran man fires high and wide from an inviting position.

75: GOAL – Crusaders 3 Glenavon 1 (McClelland)

A lifeline, perhaps? A cross finds Kyle McClelland at the back post and the big defender manages to force a header over the line.

78: Malone’s pop from 30 yards is the next effort to send Tuffey into action.

82: GOAL – Crusaders 4 (Bryden) Glenavon 1

Another goal for Bryden to celebrate this afternoon as a long ball cuts the Lurgan Blues right open and he makes no mistake.

90: Two great saves from Tuffey in succession to deny McDaid and then Francely Lomboto’s follow-up.
