Tommy Canning 'very excited by the challenge ahead' after being confirmed as the new manager of Strabane Athletic
Strabane Athletic have filled their managerial vacancy by confirming the arrival of Tommy Canning.
The ex-Dergview boss takes the reins of the NIFL Championship side after Mo Mahon had to step down for health reasons.

Former Portstewart chief Mahon was appointed as Strabane boss in November and masterminded their charge to the Championship as the club – only formed in 2010 – reached Northern Ireland’s second-tier for the first time.
Additionally, he also guided the club to the North-West Senior Cup back in May after they beat Limavady United in the final.
However, Strabane will now be led by former Finn Harps coach Canning, who left the Donegal-based side back last month.
“I’m very excited by the challenge ahead,” Canning told Strabane Athletic’s Facebook page.
"I recognise that although the squad is good, there is hard work ahead and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
Chairman Seamus McElroy welcomed Tommy to the club, adding: “Tommy has the experience we need and, having spoken to him on a number of occasions this week, it was clear that he is looking forward to the challenge of working with the players and helping us do well in this league.”
Strabane are currently 14th in the Championship table after one win and three defeats from their four games so far.
Their latest clash saw them lose 2-1 at home to H&W Welders on Saturday, with Canning expected to be in the dugout for the first time this Friday night as Strabane play ‘host’ to Newington at the Limavady Showgrounds.
Canning’s backroom staff has yet to be confirmed.
