WATCH: Glentoran's 'Pulp Fiction' homage to launch away kit that breaks with Irish League tradition

Glentoran have turned to celebrated film director Quentin Tarantino as part of a special kit launch praised as “something completely new for us” by the Irish League club.

Club skipper Marcus Kane, vice-captain James Singleton and Glentoran Women captain Jess Foy take part in a short film paying homage to the famed ‘briefcase scene’ in Tarantino’s 1994 classic starring John Travolta and Samuel L Jackson.

In the film, Travolta opens up a briefcase from which a golden light beams on his face.

The connection is the Glens’ away kit for the 2026/27 campaign which breaks from the traditional colour scheme for “The Gold Standard” design.

A Glentoran statement highlighted: “For the first time in the club's modern history, the Glens will take to the pitch in gold and black, with the new strip to be worn by the men's, women's and Academy teams throughout the 2026/27 campaign.

“Developed in collaboration with Macron's specialist design team in Italy, the shirt introduces a new colourway while incorporating subtle details that celebrate Glentoran's heritage.

“A classic round collar is finished with the club's traditional red, green and black trim, which is echoed on the sleeve cuffs as a nod to Glentoran's historic colours.

“A repeating pattern of tonal vertical bands runs throughout the shirt, with intricately embossed cockerel motifs positioned between each band. The subtle detailing adds depth and texture while allowing the gold base to remain the defining feature of the design.

“The look is completed with a full-colour embroidered Glentoran crest, black Macron Hero logos and the club's historic motto, Le Jeu Avant Tout (‘The Game Before All Else’), embroidered beneath the rear collar.

"As with all Macron performance kits, the 2026/27 away kit is manufactured using Eco Fabric technology and produced entirely from recycled materials, reflecting Macron's ongoing commitment to sustainability.

“To accompany the launch, Glentoran has produced a cinematic reveal inspired by the iconic briefcase scene from Pulp Fiction. Reimagined with a distinctly Glentoran twist, the film builds anticipation before unveiling the Club's bold new away kit.”

Glentoran director Ruth McCreery further explained the concept behind the kit choice.

"When we visited Macron's headquarters in Italy last summer, we spent time with their design team talking through ideas for this season's kits,” said McCreery. “Right from the start, we wanted the away shirt to be something supporters wouldn't be expecting, but it still had to feel like Glentoran.

"Choosing gold was something completely new for us because it's a colour we've never worn in the modern era.

"The more the design evolved, the more confident we became that we had something special.

"It's different, but it still has all those little details that make it our shirt. The traditional colours around the collar and sleeves and the embossed cockerel running throughout the fabric were really important to us.

"One of the best parts of my job is seeing supporters' reactions whenever a new kit is launched. You always hope you've got it right, and I genuinely think this is one of the nicest away shirts we've ever produced.

"Macron have been fantastic to work with throughout the whole process. They listened to what we wanted, brought plenty of ideas to the table and helped us create something we're all really proud of.

"We wanted people to enjoy the launch as much as the shirt itself. The film is a bit of fun, but from day one it was always about creating an away kit our supporters would be proud to wear. I can't wait to see the shirt around The Oval and at away grounds throughout the season."

“I’d also like to thank Donna and everyone at Scottish Provident Building for accommodating us during the filming. Their support played a big part in bringing the launch to life.”

The kit is available to pre-order via www.glentoransuperstore.com or directly from the Glentoran Superstore from 6 o’clock before Thursday’s UEFA Conference League first qualifying round home leg at The BetMcLean Oval against RFS.
