Davey Todd given green light for racing comeback at 80th anniversary Gold Cup at Oliver's Mount after six-month injury absence

Three-time Isle of Man TT winner Davey Todd will make his racing comeback at this weekend’s 80th anniversary Gold Cup meeting at Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough.

Todd sustained injuries including two broken legs in a crash at the Daytona 200 in March, which caused him to miss the North West 200, TT and Southern 100 road races.

The 30-year-old passed a medical assessment on Friday morning and will compete on the PHR Performance Triumph 765 alongside team-mate Peter Hickman.

An impressive line-up at England’s only road racing venue includes Honda Racing’s Dean Harrison and Republic of Ireland rider Mike Browne, who will ride the BPE by Russell Racing Yamaha.

There is a question mark over team-mate Richard Cooper, who is due to undertake testing duties with Triumph this weekend in Spain.

British Superbike prospect and North West 200 winner Storm Stacey will miss the event after confirming he is unable to race due to “unfortunate circumstances”.

Northern Ireland’s Shaun Anderson is also entered, with Oliver’s Mount regular Rob Hodson another leading contender.

To mark the 80th anniversary of the famous Gold Cup meeting, several parade laps will be held with the line-up featuring TT winners John McGuinness and Steve Plater, plus BSB and record NW200 Superbike winner Glenn Irwin.

Former Gold Cup winner Ivan Lintin also returns to participate in the parade laps while ex-Sidecar world champion and TT winner Ben Birchall lines up in the Sidecar races with passenger Mark Wilkes.

Practice and qualifying takes place on Friday, with racing on Saturday and Sunday.
