Mid Antrim 150: Neil Kernohan prevails in Supertwin thriller for popular win at home race

Ballymena’s Neil Kernohan won a hard-fought Supertwin race for a popular victory at his home road race at the Mid Antrim 150.

With pole man Michael Dunlop sitting out the race on Michael Sweeney’s Aprilia because of the five-race rule, Kernohan seized his chance to shine in the Co Antrim sunshine.

However, he was pushed all the way by former North West 200 Supertwin podium finisher Barry Furber, with Sean Brolly also in the mix throughout the seven-lap race at the 3.5-mile Clough course.

Kernohan and Furber were separated by only a few hundredths of a second as they battled for the spoils, with Brolly breaking the lap record with a speed of 105.735mph on his Aprilia as he closed the deficit to a few tenths on the final laps.

With the outcome in the balance, it was Kernohan who prevailed on his Kernohan Racing Aprilia by only 0.054s from Furber (Scott Racing Aprilia).

Brolly was just over six tenths of a second back in third place.

Graham McAleese finished fourth on the FAO Racing Aprilia, half-a-minute down on the top three, with Junior Support race winner Michael Clyde (Aprilia) and Lee Osprey (Trison McMullan Racing Aprilia) the top six.
