A statement issued by the organisers said: "The Loughshinny Motorcycle Supporters Club, organisers of the Skerries 100, regret to announce, a competitor has sadly passed away following a tragic accident that occurred during a Race which took place today.

"Further information will be released as soon as next of kin has been informed.”

The Irish road race was marking its 80th anniversary in 2026 and was back on the calendar after a four-year absence, with no road racing taking place in the Republic of Ireland since 2022 because of prohibitive insurance costs.

The tragedy comes after Cork racer James Walsh passed away on Friday following a crash in the Senior Support race at the Tandragee 100 in Co Armagh on June 27.

In May, Czech competitor Kamil Holan was killed during a crash in qualifying at the North West 200.
