Speaking after the game Murphy said: “It’s always going to be tough coming to Glasgow especially going five or six weeks without a game and there was definitely a bit of rustiness but we’re pleased to come away from here with the win as it has been a few years since we got one so it was great to do that.

“I suppose it shows where are standards are now at that we are slightly disappointed we didn’t come away with five points.

“All in all it was great to come over here to a really good Glasgow side and to get a win was great, we have to take the positives out of it and move on to the next game.

“We had a chat after we scored the third try and said we’ll knuckle down here try and get the fourth and come away with a bonus point.

“Glasgow threw caution to the wind and played some very good rugby, we didn’t help ourselves going down to 14 men and that could be down to a bit of rustiness as well not having played for a few weeks, but we have to look at the game from a positive stand point.

“We’re really glad to come away with the win and that is all we can do is keep winning games.”

Murphy capped 30 times by Ireland was delighted to be asked to lead Ulster.

“It is obviously a huge honour to captain this club,” he said. “With this group of players they certainly made it easy for me.

“Alan O’Connor has captained the side a number of times and is a great leader for us, Ian Madigan there as well.

“There is a lot of experience in the team so there are plenty of boys that can speak up and kind of take the load of me a bit.

“It really was an honour and the boys kind of made it easy for me.”

The skipper also hailed the impact of 21 year old lock Cormac Izuchukwu who mad his debut from the bench.

“Cormac is a phenomenal player,” said Murphy.

“I saw highlights of him playing for the Sevens over the last few years, he has been training hard with us this season and has put in some quality performances for the As.

“To get his first cap was just rewards, he has got phenomenal talent who has amazing attributes for such a big man he has skills and pace to burn.

“He is going to be a really important player for us and it was great to add him into the squad.

“We have had a lot of young guys playing and putting their hands up and he certainly didn’t look out of place, he is one of those guys nothing phases him, it was brilliant to see him get his first cap and I look forward to seeing many more.”
