Cahoots unveils season of wonder for all ages

Belfast theatre company, the internationally-acclaimed Cahoots, has unveiled its spellbinding Autumn/Winter programme, inviting audiences to step through the doors of its theatre at Cityside Retail & Leisure Park and into a world where illusion and imagination burst into life.

Created to spark wonder in audiences of all ages, the season features a varied mix of captivating productions, beginning with The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (10th – 25th October; recommended for ages 6+) as part of Belfast International Arts Festival. Fresh from a five-star review in The Guardian, which described the production as a “mindboggling bag of tricks” that “will make you believe in magic”, the show offers music, mayhem and theatrical mischief, and promises a dazzling start to Cahoots’ new season. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is presented by Cahoots NI and Buxton Opera House in association with New 42 and The New Victory Theater.

For those brave enough to take a seat, immersive theatrical experience The 13 Chairs (29th October – 1st November; recommended for ages 13+) will make its debut. A deliciously dark dinner party where nothing is quite as it seems, this intimate encounter invites guests to pull up a chair, lean into the shadows and discover what spine-tingling secrets are waiting at the table!

As the festive lights begin to glow, Cahoots will welcome a new version of its popular Christmas production The Secret Bookshop (5th – 24th December; recommended for ages 6+) to conjure up a stunning world of illusion, song and storytelling. This interactive winter adventure invites audiences to venture beyond the shelves of an extraordinary bookshop, where stories spring to life and every page reveals something special.

Audiences will also enjoy special pop-up performances in September and January within the Cityside mall, bringing bursts of theatrical joy to shoppers.

Paul Bosco Mc Eneaney, Artistic Director of Cahoots, comments: “Our home programme for Autumn/Winter feels especially exciting because it brings together so many kinds of theatrical magic. From the spectacle of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice to the drama of The 13 Chairs, and the sheer festive sparkle of The Secret Bookshop, we believe we have something for all ages to enjoy here in Belfast. At Cahoots, we want every single audience member to feel they’ve stepped out of the everyday and into something exceptional, and this programme is full of moments designed to do exactly that.”

Noirin McKinney, Director of Arts Development, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, added, “The Arts Council of Northern Ireland is proud to be principal funder of the multi award-winning Cahoots who present another thrilling programme of extraordinary theatre for audiences here this autumn/winter.  Imaginative, innovative and with a sprinkle of magic, these shows are truly something special and I would encourage everyone to go along and enjoy!”
