Cat with sad title of longest-stay resident seeking home of her own

Carers for a cat who has the unfortunate title of the longest-stay resident at the Northern Ireland Cat Centre are desperate to wave the older lady off to a new home.

Lucy Lou and her brother arrived at Cats Protection Northern Ireland Cat Centre after their owner went into to care. They were both adopted into a loving home, but Lucy Lou didn’t get on with the cat who was already in the home, showing signs of stress, she was eventually brought back to the centre, and has now been with the charity for more than 300 days.

At 13 years old, she understandably found the upheaval and life at the centre difficult, becoming increasingly timid and hiding away. In her best interests, it was decided to place Lucy Lou with a volunteer fosterer, who has been able to give her the time and space to come out of her shell.

Deputy Manager Beth English said: “This is sadly Lucy Lou’s second stay with us and she has now been here since October. We think her age and timid nature may be putting people off, but she has made huge progress since being in the home of her fosterer. She now loves nothing more than sitting on the sofa being petted. She shows off her playful side, and a tasty meal is definitely the way to her heart.

“It took a little while for her to settle down but with patience she has turned into an adorable companion. She may be on the older side but she hopefully still has many years left, and she deserves to spend those in a loving home.”

Lucy Lou requires a quiet home where she is the only pet and without very young children.
