Don't let multi-million windfall get smothered in red tape, urges East Londonderry UUP

East Londonderry UUP Association Chairman Robert Carmichael, speaking on behalf of the association, said that whilst he “wholeheartedly agreed with Secretary Benn’s view the £129 million investment was a vote of confidence in the region, we in the UUP hope that in rolling out the package over the next decade it will not become bogged down at any stage in red tape”.

Mr Carmichael continued: “This multi-million pound package for a range of projects across the Causeway Coast and Glens Council region, which takes in much of the East Londonderry constituency is a very welcome boost, especially for the locality’s economy.

“This will certainly assist the region in becoming one of Northern Ireland’s jewels in the tourism crown and we hope the investment will result in considerably more folk visiting the tremendous attractions which this wonderful area of the Province has to offer.

“Whilst we in the UUP also note that it will be about 10 years before the full package is in place, and we also wholeheartedly thank all the stakeholders who have invested in this package, we do hope that it will not be delayed or smothered at any stage by needless red tape bureaucracy,” said Mr Carmichael on behalf of the East Londonderry UUP Association.
