NICEIC shines a spotlight on unsung heroes this International Electrician Day

To mark International Electrician Day on 10 June, NICEIC, the UK's leading certification body for the electrical industry, is encouraging people to recognise the crucial role electricians play in the modern world.
International Electrician Day was originally established in 1986 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the death of French physicist André-Marie Ampère, one of the founders of the science of electromagnetism. Now an annual event, the day celebrates those working in the electrical trade and honours the vital work they do.
From keeping the country safe and connected, to being the driving force and backbone of the net zero transition, we rely heavily on the dedication and expertise of the men and women across the electrical industry.
Paul Collins, Technical Director at NICEIC, says:
“Having run my own electrical business for many years, I know first-hand just how hard electricians work and how critical safety is in this profession. So much of what they do goes unseen, hidden behind walls or under floors, and it can too easily be taken for granted. But without qualified electricians, everyday life would look very different. They help keep people safe, businesses running and the everyday things we all rely on, from boiling a kettle to charging a car, working as they should. And when you think about the wider picture, from hospitals to other critical infrastructure, their role becomes even more important.
“For 70 years, NICEIC has worked to help make sure electrical installations meet the standards needed to keep people safe. By supporting more than 40,000 certified businesses, we help them show their competence, build trust and deliver work customers can have confidence in. International Electrician Day is a chance to recognise these professionals and say thank you for the vital work they do every day.”
