The UK’s 50 best hotel restaurants revealed as diners book stays around food
Britons are increasingly choosing hotels based on their restaurants rather than their rooms, new research suggests.

Four in 10 people have booked a hotel specifically for its restaurant, according to figures released by restaurant booking platform OpenTable.1 The proportion rises to 53% among Gen Z and 49% among Millennials.1
Hotel dining is no longer limited to overnight guests either. The research found that 92% of Britons have eaten at a hotel restaurant without staying at the property, including 54% who have done so in the past six months.1
The findings indicate that restaurants are playing a growing role in travel decisions. More than half of Britons (51%) said they had chosen a destination because of its food scene, while 43% of those planning to travel this summer said restaurants would influence where they went.1
Almost half (46%) have also booked a hotel in or near their own city, suggesting that dining-led staycations are becoming increasingly popular.1
However, finding somewhere to eat remains one of the more difficult parts of planning a trip. Some 48% of respondents said discovering restaurants near their hotel or itinerary was their biggest challenge.1
Britons spend an average of 57 minutes researching restaurant reservations before travelling, while 35% expect to use artificial intelligence to find or book restaurants this year.1
OpenTable released the findings alongside its annual list of the UK’s Top 50 Hotel Restaurants.2

1Consumer Research Methodology: An online survey was conducted by Ripple Research among 1500 UK residents who have dined in a restaurant located in a hotel within the last 5 years or less, and major cities weighted at 200. Fieldwork was carried out between May 28th, 2026 and June 2nd, 2026. All data was collected in accordance with MRS (Market Research Society) and ESOMAR guidelines, ensuring ethical standards and robust data quality.
2The Top 50 Hotel Restaurants in the UK: The Top 50 Hotel Restaurants in the UK for 2026 list is generated from over 810,000 reviews from verified OpenTable diners and dining metrics from May 1, 2025 - April 30, 2026. Restaurants with a minimum threshold of diner reviews were considered and evaluated by a compilation of unique data points, including diner ratings and the percentage of five star reviews. Metrics were weighted to comprise an overall score. The resulting list appears A-Z, not in ranked order.
