Legendary uilleann piper Paddy Keenan will receive the ANAM Award in recognition of his profound contribution to Irish traditional music at FOLK iN FUSION, the opening night of the Your Roots Are Showing Music Conference, taking place at the Waterfront Hall, Belfast this January.

A native of Trim, County Meath, Keenan is best known as a founding member of the seminal group The Bothy Band and is widely regarded as one of the most influential uilleann pipers of his generation. His pioneering style reshaped modern piping and continues to influence musicians across Ireland and internationally.

The ANAM Award honours artists whose work embodies musical soul, integrity, and lasting cultural impact. Keenan’s fearless musicianship, technical mastery, and lifelong dedication to Irish traditional music make him a fitting recipient of this year’s award.

The presentation will take place during FOLK iN FUSION, the opening concert of Your Roots Are Showing, Ireland’s international folk, roots, and traditional music conference. The event celebrates artists who have carried Irish music from local tradition to the global stage while remaining rooted in cultural authenticity.

Speaking about the award, organisers said the honour recognises not only Keenan’s virtuosity but also his enduring role as a cultural torchbearer for Irish traditional music.
