Ardstewart flock hits the heights

The Irish Club Chairman, Wade McCrabbe and his wife, Alison, from Raphoe in Donegal, were absolutely delighted with the success on the night which included Best Large Flock of Ewes, Best Flock of Ewes, Best Large Ewe Lambs and Best Ewe Lambs overall along with Champion Large flock and of course the overall Champion Flock title.

The Reserve Large Flock Award and Overall Reserve Champion Flock Award went to Matthew Burleigh’s Matt’s Flock, Kinawley, County Fermanagh.

Matthew Burleigh enjoyed further success with Best Large Stock Ram and Best Stock Ram, Hackney Wonderboy and Best Large Ram Lamb, Hackney Bravo, which also won the Best Stock Ram Lamb Award.

Matthew also finished second in the Large Flock of Ewes class.

David Brown and Mark Latimer’s Brownville flock, Bessbrook, continued with its winning ways taking the top honours in the Small Stock Ram category, lifting the Small Flock of Ewes Award and the Small Ewe Lambs title as well as being named Champion Small Flock and Best Show Flock.

The Artnagullion flock of Elizabeth Wilson, from Kells, was runner-up in the Show Flock category.

Meanwhile, Kenneth Preston’s Glenpark flock, Omagh, took the Novice Flock of the Year Award. Kenneth also won the Best Small Ram Lamb Class with Matt’s Bobby Dazzler.

Gary Scott’s Bessy Bell Flock, also from Omagh, won the Small Home Bred Ram Lamb Class with JVL Bio while Patrick Brolly’s Munreary Flock, Claudy, won the large Home Bred Ram Lamb Class with Munreary Bond.

Colin Barnes Beechtree Flock from Dungannon lifted the Reserve Small Flock title. He also finished runner-up in the Small Flock of Ewes category whilst finishing third in the Small Ewe Lambs class.

Judging was carried out by Ali Jackson from Annan in Scotland who described the standard of sheep in all classes as “excellent”.

“It wasn’t an easy job but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience,” said Ali who has 30 Beltex ewes of his own. He also runs the Solway View herd of British Blue Limousins.

The flock competition was sponsored by Danske Bank.
