Northern Ireland’s newest full-fibre broadband provider, Fibrus, has announced plans to invest £14million in the Causeway Coast and Glens, connecting homes and businesses to a new hyperfast full-fibre broadband network.

Fibrus has already launched an extensive roll-out which is set to transform connectivity for regional and rural parts of Northern Ireland. The next phase of the investment programme has now reached Ballycastle, Portstewart and Portrush and will see the installation of a critical full-fibre digital infrastructure.

Craig Adair, Head of Network Delivery at Fibrus said: “We’re really excited to be investing over £14million and bringing Fibrus hyperfast broadband to

the Causeway Coast. This full-fibre service is going to be revolutionary for the area, providing families and businesses with something they have never been able to access before. This kind of connectivity is crucial for people living and working in rural communities now more than ever. In fact, with more and more local businesses and employees working from home, reliable, high speed connectivity has become an essential utility, as important as electricity and water.”

The Fibrus service will offer download speeds that are 17 times faster than the average speed across Northern Ireland, according to the latest Ofcom report. This is thanks to Fibrus’s use of full-fibre networks which are designed exclusively to carry broadband, as opposed to copper networks that carry phone or television traffic.

Craig added: “Fibrus customers can expect hyperfast speeds, uninterrupted video calling and no more buffering. In a post-pandemic world, this is not only essential, but critical, as we strive to stay safe and remain connected both with business colleagues and our loved ones from the comfort of our own homes.”

As well as the £14million investment locally, Fibrus recently announced a plan to identify and ‘plug’ any remaining gaps to ensure 100% of homes and businesses in NI will have access to full-fibre by 2025, making NI the first region in the UK or Ireland to achieve this milestone.

“Fibrus is committed to addressing the imbalance in rural connectivity and we look forward to seeing more communities enjoying the benefits of our full-fibre network.”
