First-floor dining area approved for Portadown pizza restaurant

Planning permission has been granted for the provision of a first-floor seating area at Pizza Palazzo, 13 Castle Street, Portadown, alongside the existing ground-floor restaurant/takeaway.

Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council Planning officers wrote in their report: “The application is for an extension to an existing ground floor restaurant/takeaway.

"The proposal seeks to change the current use of the first floor from a store to a seating area, and an extension to the first floor is also proposed which will provide for a secondary means of escape.

“ABC Environmental Health Department would have no objections in principle to this application. On the ground floor the existing store area will be halved in size to create a W.C, stairwell to the first floor and a store/prep area.”

The report to the local government authority went on to state that the existing external, metal stairwell will be removed.

It added: “On the first floor an existing store will be converted into a seating area for the restaurant. The new stairwell will continue up to the first floor (incorporated in a small extension).

“There will be a new window opening creating access to the first-floor flat roof for maintenance. The first-floor extension will be small in nature, 6m2, it will incorporate an internal stairwell. There will be no changes to the second floor of the building.”

The report concluded that officers consider the proposal to comply with the relevant planning policy and guidance, adding: “Approval is recommended.”
