Texel Club harvest sales ends

The NI Texel Club held their final tup sale of the season in Ballymena Mart recently.

This sale saw prices peaking at £840 for shearlings with ram lambs peaking at £682.50.

During the pre-show sale kindly sponsored by S H Coleman, Glarryford, the judge, Philip Whyte picked his champion from the ram lamb pen of Nigel Ross, Larne.

Mr Ross saw his Glenross lamb, a Curley Usher son out of a Connachan Raging ram mother sell to T McKillop, Glenarm for £682.50.

Standing next in the line-up in the ram lamb class was Austin Shaw Fairmount Texels with a homebred lamb sired by Fairmount War Horse.

This lamb went on to claim reserve champion and then change hands for £577.50 to John Butler, Ballycastle.

Claiming the third place rosette was J and R Currie, Tullagh Texels, Ballymena with a Milnbank Womaniser son out of a Glenside Topgun dam.

Selling for the same money he moves home to David Johnston Maghera.

The first place rosette in the shearling class went to Henry Gamble’s Springwell pen. This homebred shearling out of Knap Vogue later sold to D and F Kinney, Cushendal for £756. Mr Whyte’s second place rosette was claimed by D and S McIlwaine, Mistyburn Texels, with Irish Hill Warrior. Purchased as a stock ram last year this Hartside Volt son later sold for the top price of the evening at £840 to J and M Donaghy, Limavady. Standing third was Adrian McCartney Gruig Texels with Bregagh Walcot. This Tamnamoney Tuborg Gold son sold for £577.50 and moves home to join S Morrow’s flock in Dungiven.

At the close of the sale 53 ram lambs, sold to an average of £395, while 21 shearling rams sold to an average of £480.50 with an overall clearance of 94%.
