Council urges public to recycle unwanted Halloween costumes and Christmas jumpers
The public in Mid Ulster are being invited to recycle their Halloween costumes and Christmas jumpers.
The area’s district council has said that “every year, thousands of perfectly good Halloween costumes and Christmas jumpers are thrown away simply because they have been outgrown, or their owners fancy a change”.

Now it is inviting the public to hand them in at any of the council’s recycling centres.
It said the donated items will then be made available through events “where residents can browse and pick up pre-loved costumes and jumpers for free – helping them save money while also choosing reuse over buying new”.
The recycling centres are accepting unwanted Halloween costumes until October 17.
The donated costumes will then be available at an event taking place as part of the council’s Halloween event at Mid Ulster Sports Arena on October 24.
Unwanted Christmas jumpers can also be donated at any of the council’s local recycling centres until Saturday, November 21.
The Christmas jumper pick-up event will take place in Ranfurly House, Dungannon on Saturday, November 28 as part of the town’s Christmas lights switch-on event.
Residents are advised to ensure the clothes being donated are clean and in wearable condition.
Councillor Deirdre Varsani, chairwoman of Mid Ulster District Council, said: “This is a fun and novel way to help protect our environment and help families save some money.”
