Balmoral Show 2026: Crowds begin flocking to Northern Ireland's annual agri-food festival

The day has finally arrived – the opening of the annual showcase of Northern Ireland’s world famous agri-food sector, the Balmoral Show.

Crowds have begun flocking to the Eikon Exhibition Centre at Lisburn for the first morning of the four day show.

The massive venue includes a pavilion of 60 stands of Northern Ireland’s most mouth watering produce, vast stands of all types of massive farm machinery, and a larger-than-ever register of all types of livestock, from cattle, sheep, goats and pigs, as well as an extensive array of equestrian events.

This year the livestock entries are full to capacity, the horticultural sector has been expanded by some 20 per cent and organisers have bagged the Six Nations Blade Sheep Shearing competition.

The arena spectacle this year is the jaw-dropping Bold Dog motocross stunt bike riders, and as usual there are myriad attractions laid on for children.

But visitors are urged to wrap up well, as showers are forecast throughout today and much of tomorrow, with temperatures cooler than typical for May and an element of wind chill factor. However conditions are set to improve throughout the week.

And despite a few showers already this morning, they have also been interspersed with blue skies and sunny intervals.
