Huge spike as 21 Covid related deaths recorded and 787 new infections detected in NI in last 24 hours

The Department of Health (DoH) recorded 21 Covid-19 related deaths in the last 24 hours to 10.00am on Wednesday.
Twelve of the deaths occurred in the last 24 hours while the remaining nine deaths occurred outside of that time-frame but were officially recorded for the first time.

Hide AdThirteen of the individuals to die were male and eight were female.
Two of the people to sadly pass away were aged between 40 and 59; five aged between 60 and 79 and 14 were aged 80 or older.
Twelve of the deaths occurred in a hospital setting while nine occurred in a residential/care home setting.
The 21 deaths occurred in the following local government districts: Belfast (five); Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon (two); Antrim and Newtownabbey (two); Causeway, Coast and Glens (one); Mid-Ulster (four); Mid and East Antrim (three); Derry and Strabane (two); Ards (one) and Fermanagh (one).

Hide AdThe daily stats from the DoH also revealed a huge spike in the number of infections.
In total, 787 new infections were detected in the last 24 hours with 4,106 individuals having tested positive for Covid-19 in the last seven days.
The total number of individuals to test positive for Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic now stands at 63,723.
