Infections up by 23% and 16 new Covid-19 related deaths recorded in last 24 hours

The DoH defines a Covid-19 related death as one that occurs in an individual who has tested positive for the virus within 28 days of their passing.

The most recent data means the DoH’s total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic is now 1,915.

Fifteen of the 16 additional deaths occurred within the 24 hours to 10.00am on Friday and one occurred outside that time but were recorded for the first time.

Nine of the people to pass away were aged between 60 and 79 and seven were aged 80 or older.

Six of the deceased were female and ten were male.

Fifteen of the deaths occurred in a hospital setting and one occurred in a residential/care home setting.

The DoH also recorded an additional 506 new infections in the last 24 hours - this equates to a 23 per cent increase on the 412 infections reported by the DoH yesterday.

It means the total number of positive cases in the last seven days and from the beginning of the pandemic is 3,203 and 106,143 respectively.

There are currently 636 inpatients with Covid-19 in hospitals in Northern Ireland.

There are 156 intensive care unit (ICU) beds in Northern Ireland - 67 occupied by patients with Covid-19, 53 occupied by patients with non-Covid conditions and 36 are unoccupied.

Northern Ireland hospital bed capacity has decreased overnight from 95 per cent to 94 per cent.
