NI infections are 38% greater than they were this time last week - six additional Covid-19 deaths recorded in 24 hours

The number of individuals testing positive for Covid-19 in Northern Ireland has increased by almost 40 per cent in the last seven days, the latest data from the Department of Health (DoH) has confirmed.

The DoH dashboard reported 351 new infections on Tuesday December 8 but on Tuesday December 15 the number of new infections jumped to 486 - this represents an increase of 135 (38.4%).

The latest data on the Covid-19 dashboard also shows that the number of infections reported on Tuesday was 67 more than what had been reported on Monday - this equates to a 16% increase.

The total number of people to test positive for Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic now stands at 59,121.

The Covid-19 dashboard also confirmed six additional Covid-19 related deaths had been recorded in Northern Ireland in the last 24 hours.

It takes the total number of Covid-19 related deaths in Northern Ireland to 1,135.
