NI records one of its lowest numbers for new daily Covid-19 infections in months

In data published in its daily Covid-19 dashboard the DoH reported 253 new infections in the last 24 hours.

To put this into context, two weeks ago, on Thursday January 28 the DoH reported 592 new infections in 24 hours and 4,066 in the seven days leading up to that date.

Fast-forward two weeks to today, Thursday February at the number of daily infections is down 57 per cent to 253 and the number of infections in the last seven days is down 42 per cent to 2,377.

The total number of infections detected by DoH since the beginning of the pandemic now stands at 108,207.

Sadly, the DoH also recorded an additional nine Covid related deaths in the last 24 hours.

Eight of the deaths occurred within the 24 hours leading up to 10.00am on Thursday and one death occurred outside that time but was recorded for the first time.

It takes the total death toll for Covid-19 in Northern Ireland to 1,966 since the pandemic started last year.

One of those to pass away was aged between 40 and 59; four were aged beteween 60 and 79 and four were 80 years-old or older.

Five of the people to die were male and four were female.

The nine new Covid related deaths occurred in the following local council areas: Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (one); Mid Ulster (one); Newry, Mourne and Down (three); Ards (three) and not known (one).

There are currently 518 inpatients in hospitals across Northern Ireland with Covid-19.

There are 151 intensive care unit beds in Northern Ireland - 58 are occupied by patients with Covid-19; 59 are occupied by patients with other conditions and 34 are unoccupied.

Hospital bed capacity across Northern Ireland is currently 95 per cent.
