Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has called on the Northern Ireland Executive to provide urgent clarity to caravan owners around their rights, and when they will be able to once again use their caravans.

Ms Lockhart said: “Caravan owners spend thousands of pounds each year for the pleasure of enjoying their caravans.

“For many is it a place of respite, of relaxation, of spending quality time with family, and switching off from the pressures and stresses of daily life. Such benefits are all the more needed as we continue to face the impact of COVID-19 on our lives.

“It is simply not fair on these owners that they have been given no indication whatsoever when they can once again visit their vans. The lack of dates on the Executive roadmap is causing huge frustration.

“People need time to plan, they need light at the end of the tunnel, but it is not being offered. This is wrong.

“The valid question being asked is why being self contained in a caravan is any different to being at home.

“I have written to the Executive Office seeking this clarity and sharing the frustrations of caravan owners with the Executive. A review of regulations is due on 15 April and it is vital that on that date, but preferably before Easter, caravan owners get the clarity they need.”
