Walker dies after collapsing on Mourne Mountains

A walker has died after collapsing in the Mourne Mountains.

Details of the incident have been shared on the Mourne Mountains Rescue Team social media page.

In the post - added yesterday on April 17 - they say that ‘at 09.51hrs the team received a request to assist a walker discovered collapsed between the summit of Slieve Donard and the Bog of Donard col’.

The post adds that ‘despite the best efforts of other walkers, the person was pronounced deceased at the scene by the NI HEMS doctor in attendance’.

It adds that ‘the team recovered the deceased by stretcher carry and team vehicle for handover to undertakers in Newcastle.’.

A total of 20 team members responded to the callout.

They add: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased.”

A PSNI spokesman said that police eceived a report of the sudden death of a man in the Mourne Mountains area yesterday morning (Saturday, 17th April).

At this stage the death is not being treated as suspicious, there are no further details at this stage.
