Said the PSNI’s Chief Inspector Tate: “Officers attended the scene together with colleagues from the emergency services.

“One woman was taken to hospital for treatment for her injuries, which are believed to be life-threatening at this time.

“A man aged in his twenties was arrested at the scene on suspicion of a number of driving offences. He remains in police custody at this time.

“Police enquiries are ongoing, and we would ask anyone who was in the area at the time, and might have any mobile phone or dash-cam footage, or any other information which might assist, to get in touch.

Bridge Road was closed while the emergency was tackled, but has since reopened.

The crash came just a couple of hours before a man was killed in a collision a short distance over Northern Ireland’s border with the Republic.

The victim, aged in his twenties, died in hospital in Londonderry after the Co Donegal crash.

The collision happened on the R238 in the townland of Ardmore in Muff at around 9.45pm on Saturday. The driver was brought by ambulance to Altnagelvin Hospital in Londonderry, where he passed.

The road remains closed and the scene is to be examined by police forensic collision investigators. The Gardai have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Today Omagh’s Clanabogan Road has been closed due to what police described as a “serious single-vehicle road traffic collision”.
