Investigation underway after ammo found in NI estate

A security alert in the New Lodge area of north Belfast has ended with the discovery of ammunition.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: Police and ATO examined a number of suspicious objects, which were located in the area this afternoon (Thursday 18th February), and have declared them to be a number of rounds of ammunition. All the items have been removed for further forensic examination.

“An investigation is underway and anyone with any information about this incident or who may be able to help with the investigation, is asked to call detectives at Musgrave on the non-emergency number 101 quoting reference number 1519 18/02/21, or submit a report online using the non-emergency reporting form via http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/ . Sinn Fein councillor JJ Magee said: “There is no doubt that the removal of this ammunition has helped to save lives.

“There is no place for guns on our streets.

“Those behind it have little to offer and do not have the backing of the local community.”

He added: “Those responsible should get off the backs of the community.”
