Men armed with metal bar pull driver from van - PSNI give chase before van overturns on busy road

A van overturned on a busy Northern Ireland road on Tuesday evening after two men armed with a metal bar hijacked a vehicle.

The incident occurred in the Agnes Street area of Belfast at around 9.15pm.

The driver of a van parked on Agnes Streets was pulled from his vehicle by two masked men armed with a metal bar.

The PSNI gave chase and soon after the van was discovered overturned on Springfield Road.

A number of vehicles were damaged during the incident.

Two men have been arrested.

Detective Inspector Tom Phillips said that police responded swiftly.

"The van overturned on the Springfield Road and a number of vehicles were damaged during the course of the incident," he said.

“Two men were arrested and remain in custody at this time, assisting with enquiries.

"Our enquiries continue and I am appealing to anyone with information or possible dashcam/phone footage to contact 101 quoting reference 1911 16/02/21.
