Mercedes-Benz set on fire, house windows smashed - all while man, woman and four children were inside property

The PSNI is trying to identify the motive behind the attack on a Mercedes-Benz and a house containing a man, woman and four children in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The incident occurred at a property on Shimna Road, Newcastle, county Down at 2.45am.

Inspector Frances McCullough said it was “fortunate” the outcome of the attack was not worse than it actually was.

“It is fortunate that the emergency services reached this property before the fire spread to the house.

Inspector McCullough added: “We are working to establish a motive for this attack and I am appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact me by calling 101, quoting reference 141 30/07/20.
