Mid and East Antrim Borough Council issued the safety warning yesterday (Monday) after further reports of members of the public failing to heed safety notices at the popular walking route in Whitehead, Co Antrim.

The local authority stated: “As the work at Blackhead Path moves into the final weeks, council is urging people that the path remains closed.

“️We continue to receive reports that walkers are being spotted in the area which we must remind people is still a construction site.

“⚠We want the path to be able to open on time so please continue to adhere to the council’s messaging that Blackhead Path is closed.”

The multi-million pound project includes stabilisation of the cliff faces and repairs to the coastal network.

Council has issued repeated appeals throughout the contract period for the public not to visit the path and to use alternative walks in the seaside town.
