In a statement issued on Friday night, Ballysillan LOL 1891 said it was stopping its protests against the controversial decision to prevent the return parade on July 12 going past Ardoyne shops.

In the hard-hitting statement, the lodge criticised the recent talks process which failed to yield a resolution ahead of the Twelfth.

The statement said: “The County Grand Orange Lodge of Belfast notes the public comments of Ballysillan LOL 1891 and respects their decision to suspend their participation in any further protests regarding securing a homeward parade along the Crumlin Road.

“However the protest will continue until a resolution is found. There will be no further public comment by the Orange Institution on this development.”

The Ballysillan lodge held a final protest in the area on Saturday.
