And the meteorologists say it will remain cloudy this afternoon with rain, occasionally heavy, extending east.

But overall it will be a mild day with a maximum temperature 13 °C.

And tonight it is forecast that ‘rain will clear away’ before ‘the rest of the night will see variable amounts of cloud and a few showers’.

The Met Office also warn of ‘brisk westerly winds along the north coast’ and a minimum temperature 5 °C.

Tomorrow – Friday – will be ‘a colder and brighter day with scattered showers, these most frequent across the north and west’.

The Met Office also warn of ‘brisk northwesterly winds’ and a maximum temperature 10 °C.

Meanwhile the outlook for Saturday to Monday is that ‘rain will spread east for a time on Saturday morning, becoming brighter and drier in the afternoon’.

Meanwhile it will be dry on Sunday and Monday.

And the long range forecast from Monday 31 Mar - Wednesday 9 Apr is: ‘At the turn of the month, settled weather is expected to cover much of the UK.

‘Most places are expected to be dry with clear or sunny spells and light winds

‘Inland areas will see a general day on day warming next week, but cooler near coastal areas, with an additional risk of mist or sea fog affecting parts of the east coast.

‘Some periods of unsettled weather could develop at times. If this happens any rain or showers are most likely to affect southern or western areas. However the main signal is for dry and fine weather across the country.

‘Temperatures will likely be around or above normal and feeling warm during the day, and some cold nights are still possible when skies are clear’.

And looking even further ahead – Thursday 10 Apr - Thursday 24 Apr – ‘weather patterns are most likely to remain slow moving through the middle of April’.

‘High pressure located to the north of the UK will probably be dominant for much of the time, bringing a lot of fine and dry weather.

‘If there are any interludes of rain or showers, particularly later in the month, these are more likely to affect the south of the UK.

‘Temperatures are likely to be above average overall, and feeling warm inland with light winds, especially further north, although some cold nights are still possible under any clear skies’.

Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern said it will be ‘wet and windy for much of Scotland, particularly north of the Central Belt’ with that ‘rain also reaching Northern Ireland and the far southwest of Scotland later, and accompanied by strengthening winds around western coasts and over the hills and mountains’.

He added it will be ‘drier and brighter across England and Wales, but rather cloudy in the west, with a few spots of patchy drizzle over western hills’.

He added that it will be ‘sunniest towards the southeast where it will be feeling warm, but cooler under the cloud and rain further northwest’.
