Exceptional trade and prices for cattle at Markethill

An entry of 430 store cattle and weanlings at Markethill on Saturday 25th June sold in an exceptionally firm trade with prices at their highest level so far this year. Buyers from throughout Northern Ireland were in attendance.

The 220 store bullocks included several pens of top quality lots, which sold in the best trade so far this year.

Middleweights to £251 per 100kg for 386kg at £970 from a Loughgall farmer.

All top quality middleweights to £210 per 100kg to £235 per 100kg for 400kg at £940.

Forward bullocks reached £1285 for £660kg (194) and up to £320 per 100kg for 590kg Angus at £1200. All top quality lots from £185 per 100kg to £200 per 100kg.

Forward Friesian steers sold to £1090 for 774kg (141). Main demand from £130 per 100kg to £147 per 100kg for 660kgs at £970. Middleweight Friesian from £130 per 100kg to £143 per 100kg for 456kg at £650.

The 100 store heifers sold in the best trade for some time. Good quality lightweights from £200 to £239 for 352k at £840 from Rathfriland farmer. Middleweights from £188 to £212 for 472k at £1000 from a Rathfriland farmer. Forward heifers from £182 to £200 for 500k at £1000. Top price of £1125 for 598k (188) from a Tandragee farmer. Second quality heifers sold from £180 to £185 per 100 kilos.
