Early the previous Saturday, two Union and Somme remembrance flags – as well as flag poles – were removed from the hall – an act which an Orange Order spokesman condemned as “shameful”.

It followed an arson attempt against the hall in May.

PSNI Sergeant Luke Moyne said in a statement: “It has been reported that two flags were removed from the Orange Hall at Brookmount Road sometime between 1am and 9am on Saturday, July 9.

“This is the latest in a number of incidents recently, in which flags have been taken from this location.”

The PSNI did not specify what the two flags involved in the latest incident were.

He appealed for anyone with information to contact officers in Magherafelt on 101 quoting reference 509 09/07/16, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
