London Bridge: Armed police at scene of incident - London Bridge underground station evacuated after 'suspicious item' discovered on train

Armed police are the scene of an incident near London Bridge this afternoon.

British Transport Police confirmed officers were tasked to the scene after the discovery of a "suspicious item" on a train.

"Officers were called to #LondonBridge station at 12.33pm today following reports of a suspicious item on board a train.

"The station has been closed as a precaution while specialist officers assess the item.

"Thank you for your patience while we respond."

Thameslink told customers on Twitter: "If you require to travel to or from the London Bridge area, you will need to use an alternative route.

"The Police have informed us that whilst they deal with an incident at London Bridge the station is closed."
