Funeral details emerge for Caoimhin Porter-McLoone after he and fellow teenager Daniel Cullen die in crash

Full funeral details have been released for one of the two Londonderry teenagers killed in a crash near the border on Tuesday, as the official tally of road deaths for the year so far paints a dire picture.

Caoimhin Porter-McLoone is to be buried in the city on Saturday, following his death alongside Daniel Cullen in the collision with a lorry in St Johnston, on the Donegal side of the River Foyle.

Given the crash happened on the Republic of Ireland side of the border, the two men's deaths are not included in the PSNI's running tally of road fatalities, which currently stands at 15 for the year to date.

That is well above the eight people killed in the same period a year earlier, or the seven in the year to date before that.

In the full 12 months of 2025, there were 56 deaths in total.

Three of the most recent deaths occurred on the Co Armagh / Co Tyrone border on Saturday, when three people in the same vehicle died.

The most recent fatal accident in Northern Ireland was on Monday in Co Tyrone, when a 36-year-old driver was killed in a two-car crash on the road between Ballygawley and Omagh.

Tuesday's Donegal crash involved a car and a lorry; the two young men who died were passengers in the car, while its driver (who, like the others, is in his late teens) was taken to hospital.

Mr Porter-McLoone is described in a funeral notice as "beloved son of Stephanie and the late Darren, loving brother of Chloe, Hunter, Shea, Darren, and Ben, dear grandson of Eamon and the late Jacqueline Porter and Isobel McCloskey, a cherished nephew and cousin".

His death was the result of a "tragic accident", and he "will be sadly missed by his wider family circle and friends," it added.

He will be reposing at his home, 5 Moyola Avenue, until 9pm today, and from 11am to 9pm tomorrow, and his funeral will leave home on Saturday at 10.20am, going to St Brigid’s Church in Carnhill for requiem mass at 11am.

Interment will follow in the City Cemetery.

The funeral notice adds: "Sacred Heart Of Jesus have mercy on his soul. Our Lady Of Lourdes intercede for him."

Mr Cullen's funeral notice says: "Funeral arrangements later from his sister Bridie's home, 33 Carranbane walk, Shantallow."

It describes him as "beloved son of John Morrow and Sharon Cullen. Loving brother of Joe, John Paul (twin), Bridie, and Doniella", adding: "Deeply regretted and will be missed by all his family and friends.

"Sacred heart of Jesus have mercy on his soul.

"Our Lady of Knock pray for him."

Meanwhile, a petition has been started on the website Change.org, calling for better road safety measures in the area where the crash happened (the cause of which has yet to be determined).

Donna-Marie Reynolds, who started the petition, wrote: “We urge the Donegal County Council and relevant authorities to prioritize the safety of all road users by taking immediate action.

"The cost of prevention is far less than the cost of a life, making these changes not just practical but essential.”
