Wind turbines plan for Lurgan Hospital roof
Planning permission is being sought for the erection of four vertical axis wind turbines to an existing flat roof at Lurgan Hospital.
The planning application was lodged on June 12 by Gregory Architects, Belfast, on behalf of the Southern Health Trust.
If approved, the wind turbines will have a hub height of 1.2 metres, and an overall height of 2.4 metres.
As part of the application, the agent attached a report submitted by a technical analyst, in relation to whether there is a need for a shadow flicker assessment.

The technical analyst wrote: “Shadow flicker assessments consider the traditional horizontal turbines. The vertical turbines being proposed here aren’t typically assessed for shadow flicker.
“From the spec sheet, I understand the proposed turbines being self-contained. As such, shadow flicker is not predicted to occur.”
The planning application is currently at the consultation stage. Historic Environment Division and ABC Environmental Health department are being consulted as part of that process, with no response to date.
