Meanwhile, no details have been officially released of the 70-year-old man who died in a one-vehicle crash on Gardiners Cross Road in Tempo, Co Fermanagh on Sunday.

However, UUP councillor Victor Warrington said the victim had been from Strabane and was driving to the Tyrone-Cavan GAA game in Clones.

“This happened on a bad corner which has seen a number of accidents,” he said.

“It is almost a 90 degree corner. If you don’t know the area and are not prepared for it in the wet and dark, it can pose problems.”

Mr Warrington said he was due to attend a pre-planned meeting with Transport NI on Tuesday 21 June, during which he was to ask for improvements on the road.

The councillor said he was going to suggest more warning signs, better and enhanced grip surface and the removal of the tree which the pensioner crashed into.

Police have appealed for witnesses. The deceased was driving a white Suzuki Celerio and two passengers were treated for non-life threatening injuries. A post-mortem is being carried out.
