The race, in memory of British team manager, promoter, chairman and athlete who passed away in 1992, starts from the Mary Peters Track, a venue which Les promoted the international meetings featuring all the world’s elite competitors.

The event will move from the track onto the Malone Road, then the towpath to Shaws Bridge before returning by Barnetts Park and Queen’s Playing Fields to finish back on the track.

John Allen, the General Secretary of Athletics Northern Ireland said: “The now traditional Les Jones 10k provides a varied and scenic route, a relaxed atmosphere and a novel start and finish on the Mary Peters Track.”

Last year Brendan Teer from East Down scored his third success in the race, while former World Championship marathon runner Teresa Duffy of Beechmount came home to win the ladies.

All runners will receive a text message to their mobile phones after the race with details of their individual position, official time and category place courtesy of race sponsors ChampionChip Ireland.

There’s a total prize fund of £420 with each entrant receiving a commemorative T-shirt and goodie bag.

Online entry is available at www.athleticni.org where there will also be a race map and information.
